Established in 2007 and governed by an elected body, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses - Advanced Practice (NANN-AP) is the unified voice of neonatal advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). NANN-AP is dedicated to addressing the unique workforce and professional practice issues of neonatal APRNs through its commitment to leadership, expertise, and community. NANN-AP develops publications for APRNs and shares membership and access to their publications with all interested neonatal healthcare practitioners. While NANN-AP members receive NANN member benefits, NANN-AP provides its members with exclusive benefits designed specifically for advanced practitioners.

NANN-AP is the national, unified voice for neonatal APRN’s to ensure safe, quality, and cost-effective evidenced-based care that impact outcomes for neonates, infants, their families, and their communities.

Leadership

To influence the future of neonatal APRNs, NANN-AP members:

  • Set standards: Establish standards for neonatal APRN roles, education, and practice through meticulously reviewed publications. These standards ensure that APRNs are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality care.
  • National representation: NANN-AP members receive national representation in key groups such as the in the L.A.C.E. work group, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. This representation allows APRNs to have a voice in important discussions and decisions affecting neonatal care.
  • Professional Relationships: NANN-AP fosters professional relationships with organizations like the  American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. These relationships enhance collaboration and support the professional growth of APRNs.

Expertise

To share their knowledge with others, NANN-AP members:

  • Apply their expertise to the development of educational materials, many of which are available at a discounted rate to NANN-AP members.
  • Host the APRN Summit at NANN's Annual Conference, which covers key leadership and clinical topics. This summit provides a platform for APRNs to discuss challenges, share insights, and learn from experts in the field.
  • Workforce Issues: Address workforce and professional practice issues at the national level. By identifying and tackling these issues NANN-AP supports the sustainability and growth of the neonatal APRN workforce.
  • Recruitment and Retention: Release videos targeting NNP recruitment and retention to combat the NNP workforce shortfall. These videos highlight the rewarding aspects of neonatal nursing and encourage new professionals to join the field.
  • Workforce Survey: Conduct a bi-annual NNP workforce survey to uncover trends and issues related to the NNP profession. Download the executive summary of the 2016 survey findings.

Community

To connect with their colleagues, NANN-AP members engage in community-building activities:

  • Discussion Groups: NANN-AP members have access to the NANN-AP member-only discussion group in MyNANN, an online community forum. This forum allows APRNs to share experiences, seek advice, and collaborate on  projects.
  • Awards: Celebrate the work of exceptional APRNs through the APRN Excellence Award and the APRN Rising Star Award. 
  • Volunteer Opportunities: NANN-AP members can volunteer on APRN-focused task forces and work groups. These opportunities allow APRNs to contribute to important inititatives and gain valuable experience.
  • Networking: NANN-AP provides networking opportunitites at NANN's Annual Conference. Members can connect with peers, share knowledge, and build professional relationships that support their career growth.
